Handheld-open

What would it be like to be able to adjust an OBD2 device according to one's own wishes? Are you interested? Welcome to Handheld-open.
Hh-open is a small diagnostics computer, which has a reasonable price and can be programmed easily. To comply with both criteria an absolutely newly-planned hardware is necessary.

Here comes the solution:
A DXM OBD2 industry module, which is available at a reasonable price, is employed which is installed on a basis PCB. Then all important connections to vehicle diagnostics interface the are already installed. The user can be occupied with own ideas and imagination.
Therefore a AT90CAN32 processor can be adjusted to the user's own desires. This high-performance processor is available at a reasonable price, has a rich equipment and corresponds perfectly with the DXM.
This µC also controls the small full graphics display including its RGB backround lights as well as the complete menu structure, which is controlled by 4 buttons. RTC (Real-Time-Clock), SD-Slot, Dataflash and USB are optional. There are also small speakers to emit acoustic signals. A well-equipped expansion port makes future applications possible. All programming languages are possible, there are also some freeware compilers for some of the ATMEL chips, for example Bascom which delivers fast results and only requires a short period of time to get used to.
Shortly there will be more informaton to be found here regarding hardware, prices and some sotware examples which will be available for free (OHNE GELD ZU BEZAHLEN = open!!!) and will have an open source code (OPEN SOURCE!).

The following applications are possible:

    * OBD2 handheld interface
    * computer controlling events (temperature surveillance, battery voltage)
    * virtual display generator
    * measurement of acceleration
    * warning device (e.g. exceeding a particular speed)
    * datalogger
    * GAS buttler
    * board computer
    * ergonomics (calculated load - economical driving)
    * error database
    * car performance checker
    * pass-through interface

In addition to the CAN-low-level functions of the DXM further topics can be put into practice:

    * release of the handbrake
    * resetting the maintenance intervals
    * manipulation of comfort electronics
    * chip tuning
    * complex controlling tasks
    * GPS data transfers

This is a project everyone can take part in. If you like programming in the field of on board diagnostics and vehicles please do not hesitate to contact us. If your project is serious we are also pleased to make a developing system available to you.
